Jasper Drilling is a painter based in Richmond, Virginia who explores the relationship between gender and the body in his work. Through self-portraits, tadpoles, and frogs, he explores his own identity and transition. In addition to oil painting, he dabbles in printmaking, drawing, and installation art. Jasper studied studio art at the University of Mary Washington, where he was awarded the Emil R. Schnellock Award in painting. After graduating, Jasper returned to Richmond, Virginia, and continued his painting practice as a Studio Access Resident at the Visual Arts Center. He has shown work throughout the state, including his debut solo exhibition at Shenandoah Vallery Art Center, and group shows such as Color Theory: The Richmond Queer Art Experience, Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art’s Made in VA exhibition.
